App development FAQ: cost and pricing
How much does it cost to build a mobile app?
It depends on screens, integrations, platforms and backend, so a single number misleads. As market data, Clutch reports most projects on its platform fall between $10,000 and $49,999. Our app development cost guide explains what moves a project within that range.
Do you give fixed-price quotes?
Yes, when the scope is clear enough to price responsibly. For a well-defined MVP we usually give a fixed estimate tied to a written feature list and acceptance criteria. When requirements are still moving, we give a range and recommend a short paid discovery phase first. Pretending to fix the price of an undefined product just moves the risk into change requests later.
What makes app development more expensive?
The biggest drivers are building separate native iOS and Android apps, real-time features such as chat or live tracking, payments, offline sync, complex admin panels and integrations with poorly documented third-party systems. Clutch notes that separate native iOS and Android builds roughly double cost compared with one cross-platform build. Design polish and compliance work such as HIPAA or PCI scope also add effort.
Why is outsourcing to Pakistan cheaper than hiring locally?
Mostly salary and overhead differences, not lower effort. The US Bureau of Labor Statistics puts the median software developer wage at $135,980 a year, and that is salary alone before benefits, taxes and recruitment. Engineering costs in Lahore are lower. On Clutch’s Pakistan directory, most firms listing a rate sit in the $25 to $49 per hour band. Compare regions in our app development cost in Pakistan vs USA, UK and UAE article.
Are there costs after launch?
Yes: hosting, third-party APIs, crash monitoring, Apple’s $99 yearly developer fee and the yearly OS and SDK updates that keep an app listed. Treat them as a recurring line item. Our mobile app maintenance services page lists what that work covers.
Process and timelines
How long does it take to build an app?
A focused MVP with one core workflow often takes around 8 to 16 weeks after a one-to-two-week discovery, through to store submission. Larger products with several user roles, admin tools and integrations run longer. Clutch reports a typical project length of about 11 months across its reviewed projects, which includes many multi-phase builds. We give you a sprint-by-sprint plan before work starts.
What does your development process look like?
Discovery, a clickable prototype in Figma, two-week sprints that each end with a working demo build, QA on real devices, store submission and post-launch support, all run by a dedicated project manager. The phases, deliverables and sign-off points are on our mobile app development process page.
How will I see progress during the build?
Every two weeks you receive an installable build through TestFlight for iOS or Play Console internal testing for Android, plus release notes listing what was completed and what is still open. You also get access to the backlog in Jira, Linear or ClickUp and the code repository. You never have to take a percentage-complete figure on trust.
What is the most common reason app projects slip?
Scope that was never written down at the level of acceptance criteria. When “user profile” means three screens to one person and twelve to another, every sprint uncovers new work. The second most common cause is slow client feedback. We counter both with a written scope, a clickable prototype signed off before coding, and a fixed weekly decision slot.
Should I start with an MVP?
Usually yes, if you are testing a new idea with real users. An MVP proves demand before you fund the full roadmap. It is the wrong move if you are replacing an existing system that users already depend on, where a half-featured release would break their workflow. Our guide on how to build an MVP app in 12 weeks covers the trade-offs.
Ownership, NDA and security
Will you sign an NDA?
Yes, before discovery starts. We will sign your NDA or send our mutual NDA, whichever you prefer, before you share a pitch deck, data model or user research. Your idea and business details stay confidential whether or not you go ahead with us. See our NDA and IP protection page for the clauses we use.
Who owns the source code and designs?
You do, 100%. Our contracts include an IP assignment clause that transfers all rights in code, designs and documentation to you. In practice ownership never depends on a handover: code is committed to your repository from day one, Figma files sit in your workspace, and apps are published under your own Apple and Google developer accounts.
How do you handle credentials and access to my systems?
Minimum access per task, named accounts instead of shared logins, and secrets kept in a password manager or your cloud secret store, never in the repository. When the engagement ends you get an access register to revoke against. The template is on our app development NDA and IP page.
How do you approach app security?
We use the OWASP Mobile Application Security Verification Standard (MASVS) as our baseline: secure local storage, certificate validation, proper authentication flows and no secrets in the app binary. For higher-risk products such as fintech or health apps, our mobile app testing services follow the OWASP MASTG, and we recommend an independent penetration test before launch.
Working with a Pakistan team
How do time zones work with a team in Lahore?
Pakistan Standard Time is UTC+5 with no daylight saving. UAE clients get near-full overlap and UK mornings match Lahore afternoons. US clients get a 2 to 4 hour overlap window plus written handoffs. The full table by city is on our contact app developers in Pakistan page.
Is Pakistan a reliable place to outsource app development?
The industry is large and growing. Pakistan’s IT and ITeS exports hit a record $4.6 billion in FY2026, up 21% year on year, according to the State Bank of Pakistan. Quality still varies by vendor, so judge the team, not the country. Our guide to outsourcing app development to Pakistan lists what to check.
When is a Pakistan-based team not a good fit?
If you need developers on-site in your office every day, or your team cannot work with written specs and async updates, an offshore model will frustrate you. The same applies if you need constant real-time pairing across all eight hours of a US Pacific working day. In those cases a local agency or an in-house hire is the better call.
How do we communicate day to day?
Through a shared Slack or Microsoft Teams channel, a written end-of-day update, and a weekly live call with your project manager. Sprint demos happen every two weeks on video. All decisions that change scope, cost or timeline are confirmed in writing. Our team works in English, and documentation, tickets and code comments are written in English.
Can I hire developers to join my existing team?
Yes. Through staff augmentation you can add iOS, Android, Flutter or React Native developers who work inside your processes, tools and standups. Every hire starts with a two-week developer trial so you can judge fit on real work before committing. Browse the roles on our hire mobile app developers page.

Technology choices
Should I build native or cross-platform?
Choose native Swift and Kotlin if your app depends heavily on device hardware, platform-specific UI or demanding graphics. Choose Flutter or React Native if you need iOS and Android from one codebase on a tighter budget and timeline. Most business apps fit cross-platform well. Read native vs cross-platform: which to choose for a decision checklist.
Flutter or React Native?
Both are production-ready. Flutter renders its own UI with the Impeller engine, giving very consistent visuals across platforms. React Native uses native components and fits teams with JavaScript or TypeScript skills; version 0.76 made its New Architecture the default. Choose based on your team’s skills and existing code. Our Flutter vs React Native comparison goes deeper.
Which platform should I launch on first?
Follow your users. StatCounter data for September 2026 shows iOS at 53.6% of mobile usage in the US, while Android holds 69.2% worldwide. A US consumer app often leads with iOS; an app aimed at a global audience often leads with Android. Cross-platform frameworks let you avoid the choice entirely.
Can you add AI features to my app?
Yes. Common requests include chat assistants, document and image understanding, recommendations and search over your own content. We design these with cost controls, privacy and fallback behaviour in mind, because model calls cost money per request and can fail. See our AI app development service for typical use cases.
After launch
Do you handle App Store and Google Play submission?
Yes, under your own developer accounts. We prepare builds, screenshots, privacy labels and review notes, answer reviewer questions, and check the common rejection causes before submitting. The full scope is on our app store submission services page.
What does post-launch support include?
Bug fixes, crash monitoring through Crashlytics or Sentry, small improvements and the yearly OS and target-API updates that Apple and Google require, usually under a monthly agreement. How we handle each annual deadline is on our OS update compatibility support page.
Can you take over an app another agency built?
Often, yes. We start with a paid code audit of architecture, dependencies, tests, security and the build pipeline, then tell you plainly whether to continue, refactor or rebuild parts. You get the report either way. The process is on our failed app project rescue page.
