Offshore app development for Australia, reviewed every afternoon

Search for offshore app development Australia-wide and many of the teams you find are asleep when you have questions. Lahore sits three to six hours behind Australia, so our morning meets your afternoon, and we keep building after you log off. You review work after lunch, leave feedback, and see it in the build the next morning. Our builds also plan for the Privacy Act 1988 and the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme from discovery.

Why the time difference works in your favour

With most offshore locations, an Australian team waits overnight for answers. Lahore behaves differently. When it is 14:00 in Sydney under standard time, it is 09:00 in Lahore and our day is just starting. The team has a few live hours with you, then continues for the rest of its day while your office is closed. Feedback given at 15:00 Sydney time is often in a fresh build before your next stand-up.

The trade-off is mornings. Before 14:00 on the east coast (15:00 during daylight saving), Lahore is offline, so urgent issues raised at 09:00 Sydney time wait a few hours unless a support arrangement says otherwise. Most Australian clients schedule around this easily: mornings for internal work, afternoons for us.

Australia is one of the locations we serve where this pattern is strongest. The broader cost, talent and risk case is on our outsource to Pakistan pillar, and our vendor checklist for questions to ask any offshore team, including us.

Australian time zones vs Lahore

Pakistan never changes its clocks (UTC+5). In Australia, daylight saving applies in New South Wales, Victoria, the ACT, Tasmania and South Australia, but not in Western Australia, Queensland or the Northern Territory, per timeanddate.com. So the gap depends on both city and season.

City (zone) Australia ahead of Lahore by Lahore 09:00 is, locally Live overlap, local time
Perth (AWST, no DST) 3 h all year 12:00 About 12:00 to 17:00, five hours
Darwin (ACST, no DST) 4.5 h all year 13:30 About 13:30 to 17:00
Brisbane (AEST, no DST) 5 h all year 14:00 About 14:00 to 17:00, stable all year
Adelaide (ACST / ACDT) 4.5 h / 5.5 h 13:30 / 14:30 Two and a half to three and a half hours
Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra, Hobart (AEST / AEDT) 5 h / 6 h 14:00 / 15:00 Two to three hours; shortest in the daylight-saving months

Overlap assumes a 09:00 to 17:00 office day locally and a 09:00 start in Lahore [[confirm Lahore office hours]]. Exact meeting times are set in discovery.

A typical day for a Sydney or Melbourne client

Every fortnight ends with a demo build you can install, the sprint rhythm documented on our how we work page. Inside a sprint, the day looks like this.

Your morning: review last night’s build

A new build is on TestFlight or Play internal testing, with a written note of what changed and the decisions we need. You test it on your own phone over coffee.

Early afternoon: stand-up as Lahore starts

Fifteen minutes to agree priorities and answer the questions from the note, live while both teams are online.

Mid-afternoon: reviews and pairing

Design reviews in Figma, UAT on staging and pairing on anything blocked, for the two or three shared hours.

Your evening: Lahore keeps building

The team works through your feedback, tests on real devices and prepares the next build, so it is ready when your day begins.

The Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles

Australia’s Privacy Act 1988 sets out 13 Australian Privacy Principles. It covers government agencies and organisations with annual turnover above A$3 million, plus some others, according to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner. Smaller businesses should check with an adviser whether one of those other categories catches them.

For an offshore build, the principles mostly show up as design decisions we make with you in discovery: what each screen collects and why, what the in-app privacy notice says, which SDKs receive personal data and in which countries, how users access or correct their information, and where production data is hosted. Development and staging run on synthetic records, so our engineers in Lahore do not handle your users’ information during the build. General information only, not legal advice.

Notifiable Data Breaches: what the app and team must be ready for

The Notifiable Data Breaches scheme, Part IIIC of the Privacy Act, has applied to breaches since 22 February 2018. An eligible data breach is one likely to cause serious harm. The OAIC says entities must assess a suspected breach within 30 days and notify affected individuals and the OAIC as soon as practicable. Here is what that means for the people building and running your app.

NDB requirement What we build or agree
Know that a breach may have happened Alerting on unusual admin activity, failed-login spikes and data exports; error monitoring in Sentry or Crashlytics.
Assess within 30 days Access logs and audit trails that show what was touched, by whom and when, kept long enough to investigate.
Judge likely serious harm A data inventory listing which tables hold sensitive information, so the scope of a breach is clear quickly.
Notify individuals as soon as practicable A way to message affected users in-app, by push and by email, without a new release.
Notify the OAIC An incident runbook naming who on your side decides and who on ours supplies technical facts, with contact times.

We supply technical evidence and fixes; the assessment and notification decisions are yours and your adviser’s.

Contracts, AUD invoicing and ownership

Australian clients are invoiced in US dollars, or Australian dollars where agreed [[confirm AUD invoicing option]]. Three ways to buy once discovery ends: a fixed price paid as milestones are accepted, a dedicated team prepaid monthly, or hours logged and settled monthly up to a spending ceiling. Our dedicated team vs fixed price guide helps you choose.

An NDA is signed before discovery. Every commit lands in a repository you control, and the Apple and Google accounts are opened in your company’s name. Our NDA and IP protection page sets out the clauses.

For post-launch support, we set response times around the time difference, so it is clear what happens to an incident raised at 08:00 in Sydney before Lahore is online. See app maintenance and support.

Platform and billing notes for Australian apps

Australian consumer apps usually launch on iOS and Android together, which is why many clients choose cross-platform development with Flutter or React Native for the first version, moving individual features to native code only where performance or device APIs demand it. Subscription apps have one extra option worth considering: Google’s user choice billing, which lets eligible developers offer their own billing system alongside Play billing, is available in Australia. Digital content and subscriptions on iOS still follow Apple’s in-app purchase rules outside the US storefront, while physical goods and services must use your own payment provider.

Offshore app development Australia FAQ

What is the time difference between Sydney and Lahore?

Sydney is five hours ahead of Lahore under standard time and six hours ahead during daylight saving, because New South Wales changes its clocks and Pakistan does not. A 09:00 start in Lahore is 14:00 or 15:00 in Sydney, giving two to three hours of live overlap every afternoon.

Which Australian city has the best overlap with Lahore?

Perth. Western Australia is three hours ahead of Pakistan all year with no daylight saving, so Lahore’s morning matches Perth’s midday and there are about five shared office hours. Brisbane is also stable at five hours ahead all year, because Queensland does not use daylight saving.

Does the Privacy Act apply to our app?

The Privacy Act 1988 and its 13 Australian Privacy Principles cover government agencies and organisations with annual turnover above A$3 million, plus some others. Smaller businesses can still be covered in certain categories, so check with your adviser. We design notices, consent, access and hosting so the app can meet the principles either way.

How do you support a Notifiable Data Breaches response?

We build audit logs, alerting and a data inventory so a suspected breach can be assessed within the 30 days the OAIC expects. We also agree an incident runbook naming who decides and who supplies technical facts, and we make sure you can message affected users quickly. Notification decisions remain yours.

What happens if something breaks during our morning?

Lahore is offline until about 14:00 on the east coast (15:00 during daylight saving), so the support agreement sets out what happens then: monitoring alerts, an on-call contact if you need one, and target response times. Most production issues are caught by monitoring and handled when the Lahore day starts, early in your afternoon.

Can you invoice in Australian dollars?

We usually invoice in US dollars, and AUD can be agreed so your accounts team avoids currency swings. The currency sits in the contract next to the payment calendar. Milestones trigger payment on fixed-price work, dedicated teams are prepaid monthly, and time-and-material hours are settled after delivery within a cap.
