Website to app conversion

Website to mobile app conversion company that gets past App Review

Most “convert your site in a day” tools produce a web page inside an app frame, which is exactly what Apple’s minimum functionality rule targets. We are a website to mobile app conversion company in Lahore that does it differently: we keep your existing backend, content and checkout logic, then build an iOS and Android app with the native features that make it worth installing. This service sits within our app modernization services, and the first step is a straight answer on whether you need an app at all.

  • Reuses your existing APIs and CMS
  • Designed against Apple Guideline 4.2
  • Shopify, WooCommerce and custom sites
  • You own the code and store accounts

Why thin web wrappers get rejected under Apple Guideline 4.2

Apple’s App Review Guidelines say under 4.2 Minimum Functionality that an app must offer features, content and UI that go beyond a repackaged website. A WebView that loads your homepage, with the browser bar hidden, is exactly what that rule describes. Reviewers tap around, see your mobile site, and send back a 4.2 rejection.

Guideline 4.3(b) adds a second trap: apps indistinguishable from what is already widely available count as spam. Template converters that ship thousands of near-identical wrapper apps run into this one too.

Google Play is less strict, but users are not: a wrapper that logs people out or breaks offline earns one-star reviews. The fix is the same for both: give the app jobs your website cannot do.

Signs your current plan is a wrapper

  • The app is one full-screen WebView with no native navigation.
  • Nothing works offline; you get a browser error page instead.
  • Login, cart and settings are the mobile website, pixel for pixel.
  • There are no push notifications, device features or app-only flows.
  • The vendor quotes days, not weeks, and never asks about your API.

Our guide to converting a website into an app lists the questions to ask any vendor before you sign.

Native value that makes a converted app worth installing

You do not need all of these. Two or three that match how your customers use the site are usually enough to justify an app, for reviewers and for users.

Push notifications

Order updates, back-in-stock alerts, appointment reminders and saved-search matches, sent through Firebase Cloud Messaging and APNs and segmented by user behaviour rather than blasted to everyone.

Native navigation and speed

A native tab bar, native lists that scroll at full frame rate, swipe-back gestures and screens that load from cache first. For most users this is the most noticeable difference from your mobile site.

Offline and saved content

Wishlists, downloaded guides, recent orders and drafts that open without a connection, with sync when the network returns. Useful for travel, field work and patchy mobile data.

Device features

Camera and barcode scanning, location for nearby stores or delivery tracking, biometric login with Face ID or fingerprint, and Apple Pay or Google Pay at checkout.

Account features

Persistent login, order history, loyalty points and in-app account deletion, which Apple requires under Guideline 5.1.1(v) whenever users can sign up in the app.

PWA vs wrapper vs native or cross-platform rebuild

There are three realistic routes. The right one depends on what you want users to do and whether you need to be in the stores.

Option What it is Choose it if Main risks
Progressive web app (PWA) Your website gains a manifest, icons and a service worker so users can install it from the browser. You want home-screen access and web push without store listings, and your audience is happy to install from a link. Not in the App Store; iOS web push only works once the app is added to the Home Screen; fewer device APIs.
Enhanced wrapper (hybrid) Native shell with native navigation, push, login and offline screens, with some content still rendered from the web. Your site is content-heavy, changes daily, and only a few flows need to feel native. Review risk if the native layer is too thin; two UIs to keep consistent.
Native or cross-platform rebuild A Flutter, React Native, Swift or Kotlin app that talks to your existing APIs. Checkout, booking or account flows drive revenue and you want the best speed, offline support and review safety. Higher upfront cost; your backend must expose clean APIs (or we build them).

PWA facts: WebKit on Web Push for Home Screen web apps (iOS 16.4) and MDN on PWA installability.

When a progressive web app is the better answer

Sometimes the right recommendation is not to build a store app. A PWA is installable in Chromium browsers with a linked manifest that includes a name, 192px and 512px icons, a start URL and a display mode, served over HTTPS. A service worker is not required to install, but you will want one for offline support.

On iPhone, web push has worked since iOS and iPadOS 16.4, but only for web apps the user has added to the Home Screen, and permission must be requested after a tap. That extra step means fewer subscribers than a store app would get. If you mainly need repeat visits from loyal customers who already use your site, a PWA is cheaper to build and keep up. Our progressive web app development team can scope it.

A PWA is usually enough when

  • Search and paid traffic land on the web anyway
  • You do not need store discovery
  • Device features are limited to camera and location
  • Content changes many times a day
  • Budget favours one codebase for web and mobile

Reusing your APIs, backend and content

The biggest saving in a conversion is not the screens. It is the backend you already have: product catalogue, users, orders, CMS content and payment provider. In discovery we map every screen of the planned app to an existing endpoint, then list the gaps.

Common gaps are predictable. Many websites render pages on the server and have no JSON API for the app to call. Session cookies work for browsers but not for mobile tokens. Push needs device tokens stored against users. Search and filters may be tied to the theme rather than exposed as endpoints. Where gaps exist, we add a thin API layer or extend your current one through our mobile app backend development team, rather than rebuilding what already works.

If marketing edits banners in WordPress or Shopify, the app reads them through the API, so changing a promotion never needs an app release.

Not sure if your website should become an app?

Send us your URL and what you want the app to do. We reply within one business day, then review your site and APIs and recommend a route: PWA, enhanced wrapper or rebuild.

Converting Shopify, WooCommerce and other e-commerce sites

Stores are where native value is easiest to show: saved carts, order tracking, back-in-stock push, faster product browsing and one-tap Apple Pay or Google Pay.

Shopify exposes products, collections, carts and customer accounts through its Storefront API, so a custom app can read the same catalogue your web store uses. WooCommerce has a REST API for products and orders, though many WooCommerce sites depend on plugins whose data is not exposed, and that is where most hidden effort sits.

Payments need care. Physical goods must not go through Apple in-app purchase or Google Play billing; Apple Guideline 3.1.3(e) points them to other methods such as Apple Pay or card entry. Your existing gateway usually carries over. Our e-commerce app development page covers the full feature set, and the must-have e-commerce app features guide helps you prioritise.

Typical timelines by route

These are typical ranges after a one-to-two-week discovery, assuming your APIs are usable and decisions come quickly. We confirm a fixed timeline and price once discovery is complete.

Route Typical build time What moves it
PWA upgrade of an existing site A few weeks Service worker caching rules, push setup, how clean the front end is
Enhanced wrapper (hybrid) Shorter than a full rebuild Number of native screens, login and session handling, review feedback
Cross-platform rebuild on existing APIs 8–16 weeks, in line with an MVP API gaps, payment and loyalty integrations, design depth
Rebuild plus new API layer Longer; scoped in discovery Size of the backend work, data migration, third-party systems

All timelines are estimates for planning, not quotes. Every build runs in two-week sprints with a TestFlight and Play internal testing build each sprint.

How our website to mobile app conversion company runs a project

The process mirrors our standard delivery model, with an extra API review at the start.

Site and API audit

We review analytics, the front end, APIs, CMS and payment flows, and tell you which route fits. NDA signed before we see anything sensitive.

Discovery (1–2 weeks)

Workshops to choose the native features, map screens to endpoints and list API gaps. Output: backlog, clickable prototype and fixed price.

API and design work

Fill API gaps, set up auth tokens and push, and design native screens that match your brand without copying the mobile site.

Build in two-week sprints

Usually Flutter or React Native for one codebase; native Swift or Kotlin where device features demand it. A demo build ships every sprint.

Store submission and launch

Listings, privacy details, reviewer notes and a demo account, handled through our app store submission services. Then monitoring and fixes after launch.

Websites we have turned into apps

[[Add 1–2 conversion case studies: original site platform, route chosen (PWA, hybrid or rebuild), native features added, review outcome, and a metric the client approved, such as share of orders placed in the app.]]

[[Add a verified client quote with written permission.]] Until then, see our portfolio.

Website to app conversion: frequently asked questions

Will Apple reject an app made from my website?

It will if the app is just your website in a frame. Guideline 4.2 requires features, content and UI that go beyond a repackaged website. Apps that add native navigation, push notifications, offline content, device features and app-only account tools are in a much stronger position at review. We design those in from discovery and include reviewer notes explaining the native functionality when we submit.

Can you reuse my existing website backend?

Usually, yes. Products, users, orders and CMS content can stay where they are. The app needs a JSON API to talk to, token-based login and a place to store push device tokens. If your site renders everything on the server with no API, we add a thin API layer on top rather than rebuilding your backend.

Should I build a PWA or a store app?

Choose a PWA if you mainly want home-screen access and web push for existing customers, and you do not need store discovery. Choose a store app if checkout, bookings or loyalty drive revenue, if you need richer device features, or if customers expect to find you in the App Store and Google Play. Many businesses start with a PWA and add an app later.

Can you turn my Shopify or WooCommerce store into an app?

Yes. Shopify’s Storefront API and WooCommerce’s REST API expose products, carts and orders, so the app can share your catalogue and checkout. The main effort is usually plugins and custom features that are not in the API, plus push notifications and native checkout with Apple Pay or Google Pay. We review your setup before quoting.

How long does a website to app conversion take?

A PWA upgrade can take a few weeks. A cross-platform rebuild on existing APIs typically takes 8–16 weeks after a one-to-two-week discovery, similar to an MVP. The main variables are API gaps, payment and loyalty integrations, and how many screens need native design. We confirm a fixed timeline after discovery.

Will my website content update automatically in the app?

It can, if the app reads content from your CMS or e-commerce platform through its API. Banners, products, blog posts and landing content then change in the app when your team edits them on the website, with no new release. Only changes to app screens or logic need a store update.
