Admin panels and dashboards
Admin Panel & Dashboard Development Company for App Businesses
We are an admin panel & dashboard development company that builds the web back office behind your app: user and content management, orders and refunds, roles and permissions, audit logs, reports and the tools your support and operations teams use every day. Admin panels are part of our mobile app backend and API development service and share the same API, data and security rules as your app.
- Roles and permissions from day one
- Audit log on every sensitive action
- Reports your team can trust
- Built on your app’s API
Why the admin panel deserves proper design time
Teams often treat the admin panel as an afterthought: a database viewer with a login. Then the app launches, support tickets arrive, and staff end up editing records in the database or asking developers to issue refunds. That is slow, risky and impossible to audit.
A good admin panel is a product for internal users. Support agents need to find a customer in seconds and see their history in one place. Operations needs queues of work to approve, assign or resolve. Finance needs refunds, payouts and exports that reconcile. Managers need numbers they can trust without asking an engineer.
We scope the admin panel in the same discovery as the app, so the data model supports both. The admin uses the same backend API and permission checks as the app, so nothing can be done in the back office that bypasses your business rules.
What we build into admin panels
Most admin panels combine several of these modules. We start with the ones that remove the most manual work.
User and account management
Search, profile view, status changes, password and MFA resets, account deletion requests and a full activity timeline per user.
Content and catalogue
Products, menus, courses, banners, push campaigns and in-app copy, with drafts, scheduling and preview before publishing.
Orders, bookings and payments
Order lifecycle, refunds with approval limits, payouts to vendors or drivers, and links to the payment provider’s records.
Moderation queues
Reported posts, profiles and reviews with block, remove and warn actions. Apple Guideline 1.2 requires user-generated-content apps to offer reporting with timely responses and a way to block abusive users.
Reports and dashboards
Daily operational metrics, cohort and revenue views, and CSV or Excel exports with permissions on who can export what.
Settings and feature flags
Pricing rules, service areas, commission rates, minimum app version and remote switches to turn features on or off without a release.
Roles and permissions that match how your team works
Permissions are the part of an admin panel most often built badly. A single “admin” flag means every support agent can issue refunds, export every customer and change pricing. We design role-based access control around jobs, not people.
Typical roles are support agent, senior support, operations, finance, content editor, read-only analyst and super admin. Each role gets explicit permissions per action (view, create, edit, delete, export, approve), and where needed per scope, such as a city, a brand or a vendor. Sensitive fields like phone numbers or ID documents can be masked unless the role needs them.
For larger teams we connect the admin panel to your identity provider for single sign-on and MFA, so leavers lose access when their company account is closed. That pattern is covered in more depth under enterprise mobile app development.
Permission rules we apply
- Least privilege by default
- Permissions checked on the server, not just hidden buttons
- Approval steps for refunds above a limit
- Masked personal data for most roles
- Scoped access by region, brand or vendor
- MFA required for all admin users
- Time-limited, logged impersonation
Audit logs: who did what, and when
When a customer says their order was cancelled without warning, or a vendor disputes a payout, you need an answer in minutes. An audit log records every sensitive action: who performed it, when, from where, what changed (old and new values) and why, if a reason was required.
We write audit entries on the server in the same transaction as the change, so they cannot be skipped, and store them append-only so admins cannot edit their own history. Logs are searchable by user, record and action, and retained under a policy you approve.
Audit logs also help with regulation. The HIPAA Security Rule lists audit controls among its technical safeguards for electronic protected health information, according to HHS, and logs are the evidence trail for fintech and data protection reviews. See our healthcare and fintech and banking pages for sector specifics.

Off-the-shelf admin framework or fully custom?
Admin panels do not always need to be built from scratch. The right choice depends on your backend and how specialised your workflows are.
| Approach | Examples | Good for | Limits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Admin framework on your backend | Laravel Filament or Nova, NestJS with an admin kit | CRUD-heavy back offices, fast delivery | Unusual workflows need custom pages |
| React admin framework | React Admin, Refine | Any REST or GraphQL API, flexible UI | More front-end work than a backend-native kit |
| BaaS console plus custom pages | Firebase or Supabase dashboards for engineers | Early MVPs with engineering-only admins | Not safe or usable for non-technical staff |
| Fully custom web app | React or Vue with a design system | Complex workflows, external users such as vendors | Highest build effort |
For most app businesses we recommend an admin framework that matches your backend, with custom screens for the two or three workflows that make your business different.
Reporting dashboards your team will trust
Dashboards fail when numbers disagree. Marketing counts sign-ups one way, finance another, and nobody knows which is right. We define each metric once (what counts as an active user, an order, a cancellation) and compute it in one place, then show it everywhere.
Operational views read from the live database with sensible limits. Heavier analysis, such as cohorts, retention and revenue over time, runs on a read replica or a separate analytics store so a big report cannot slow the app. For deep analysis we often connect a BI tool such as Metabase, Looker Studio or Power BI rather than rebuilding it inside the admin panel.
Exports are where data leaks happen. We restrict exports by role, log every export in the audit trail, and remove fields a role should not see before the file is generated.
Ops tooling checklist for launch
These small tools save hours of developer time in the first months after launch.
- Customer search by email, phone, order or user ID
- One-page customer view with orders, payments and tickets
- Safe impersonation (view as user) with logging
- Resend verification, reset MFA and restore locked accounts
- Account deletion requests handled within the app’s policy
- Manual refunds and credits with approval limits
- Push and email campaign sender with audience preview
- Minimum app version and maintenance mode switches
- Failed payment and webhook retry queue
- System health page linked to monitoring
How our admin panel & dashboard development company delivers
The admin panel is built alongside the app or added to an existing one, under the same process: NDA first, code in your repository, two-week sprints with demos.
Map the internal users
During discovery we interview support, operations and finance, list their daily tasks and define roles and permissions.
Design the key screens
Wireframes for the customer view, queues and reports. Internal tools need clarity and speed, not decoration.
Build on the shared API
Admin endpoints reuse the app’s business rules, with extra permission checks and audit logging on every write.
Test with your staff
A pilot with the people who will use it daily. Their feedback usually changes search, filters and bulk actions.
Train and hand over
Short guides per role, a permissions matrix and ongoing support through our app maintenance and support plans.

Admin panel and dashboard development FAQs
Do I need an admin panel for my MVP?
Almost always, but a small one. At minimum your team needs to find users, handle account issues, manage core content and process refunds without touching the database. An admin framework on your backend covers that quickly. Reporting and bulk tools can follow once you know which questions your team asks most.
Can you build an admin panel for an app another team built?
Yes. We review the existing backend and database, document the data model, and build the admin panel on top of the current API, adding endpoints where needed. If the backend has no permission layer, we add one first, because an admin panel without server-side permission checks is a security risk.
Is the admin panel a web app or part of the mobile app?
Usually a web app, because internal teams work at desks with large screens, tables and keyboards. Some roles, such as field supervisors or vendors, benefit from a few admin actions inside the mobile app or a separate lightweight app. We decide per role during discovery.
How do you keep customer data safe in the admin panel?
MFA for every admin user, least-privilege roles, server-side permission checks, masked personal data for roles that do not need it, restricted and logged exports, and an append-only audit log. Admin access can also be limited to your company network or identity provider. Logs show exactly who viewed or changed what.
Can vendors or partners use the admin panel?
Yes, with scoped access. A restaurant, store or driver partner sees only their own orders, menu or payouts, and cannot see other partners or your internal settings. Partner portals often get their own simplified interface on the same backend and permission system.
Can the dashboard connect to our BI tools?
Yes. We can expose a read replica or a reporting schema to tools such as Metabase, Looker Studio or Power BI, with metrics defined once in the backend so numbers match the admin panel. Operational screens stay in the admin panel; deeper analysis lives in the BI tool your team already knows.
